Honduras has signed a contract for the supply of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. This is stated in a statement by the administration of the President of the Central American Republic on Twitter.
The head of state, Juan Orlando Hernandez, said that he had met with the Director General of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev. Then the contract was sent to Tegucigalpa, which was approved.
Earlier, a batch of vaccine produced by the American company Moderna arrived in the country.
Honduras registered Sputnik V under the fast track procedure on 25 February. The vaccine is now approved for use in more than 40 countries with a total population of over 1.2 billion. Zimbabwe is the last country to approve a Russian vaccine so far.
This is the first registered Russian coronavirus vaccine based on another adenovirus. In Russia, the vaccination campaign started on December 5, 2020, but then it was available to citizens from risk groups. At the moment, the vaccination campaign is massive.
