Hofmann (middle) injured his knee in Herzogenaurach
Midfielder Jonas Hofmann will remain in the German national soccer team's EM squad despite a knee injury. The 28-year-old from Borussia Mönchengladbach, thrown back from a corona infection in April, injured himself in training on Thursday. A use in the opening hit of the Germans on Tuesday (9 p.m. / live ORF 1 and oe24.tv) in Munich against world champion France seems to be ruled out.
“Jonas wouldn't be here if we didn't have justified hopes that he could get involved in the course of the tournament,” said Germany's assistant coach Marcus Sorg on Saturday in the team quarters in Herzogenaurach. Team boss Joachim Löw's assistant is already looking forward to the start: “We want to set a scent brand.”
