Historic decision: Biden signed the Lend-Lease law for Ukraine

by alex

On the day when Russia celebrates “Victory Day”, US President Joe Biden signed the law on lend-lease for Ukraine , within which – an increase in the supply of weapons and an acceleration in the pace of their provision to Ukraine.

The full name of the bill is The Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022.

This was reported in the White House.

It is worth noting that the signing of the document was preceded by the procedure for passing a law in the US Senate and US House of Representatives. So, on April 7, the US Senate unanimously adopted a bill on the resumption of the World War II program (Lend-Lease).

Later, on April 28, the US House of Representatives approved the Lend-Lease law for Ukraine. As this decision was explained, they supported the proposal, since the Ukrainian defenders proved that they can fight off Russian troops and show real heroism in the fight against the enemy. ?

The lend-lease program is the assistance that the United States provided to the allies of the anti-Hitler coalition in the period from 1941 to 1945. It can be translated from English as “to lend and rent” (Lend Lease). The United States then provided the countries of Europe with about $60 billion in aid. At current prices, this amount is 700 billion dollars.

According to the head of the “Center for Military Legal Research” Oleksandr Musiyenko, this law has four main advantages for Ukraine:

According to many experts, the introduction of the Lend-Lease program can greatly simplify bureaucratic red tape in providing US assistance to Ukraine, as is happening now. After all, now any processes for the supply of weapons go through different American officials, which significantly slows down the whole process. According to experts, lend-lease is also useful for the United States itself, since this program will have a positive impact on the American economy and raise the rating of US President Joe Biden.
