< p>On the evening of Wednesday, March 16 (Kyiv time), a powerful earthquake hit the northeast of Japan, as a result of which at least two people were killed and dozens were injured, and a high-speed train derailed.

This is reported by Kyodo with reference to the country's emergency services.

The most powerful tremors of magnitude 7.4 were recorded in the prefectures of Miyagi and Fukushima – these are the areas most affected by the earthquake. At least two people died here. Another 92 people were injured in different parts of the island country.
