After a review of the list of available air defense systems, systems that could be available to Ukraine were identified.
Several NATO allies did specific announcements about the supply of more air defense systems and other military equipment to Ukraine. Help is on the way.
This was announced to Ukrinform by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference following the results of the Ukraine-NATO Emergency Council.
According to him, after reviewing the list of available air defense systems, systems that could be available to Ukraine were identified.
“I expect new announcements about the supply of anti-aircraft weapons for Ukraine very soon… Each of the allies will decide what to provide. The seven allies made concrete commitments during the meeting, and I hope that these contributions will be completed soon. Help is on the way,” stressed Jens Stoltenberg.
NATO Secretary General noted that after President Zelensky’s report on the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine’s critical need for more air defense systems, The defense ministers of the Alliance member countries agreed to increase such supplies and provide further military assistance.
Jens Stoltenberg noted the efforts of Germany, which decided to supply additional Patriot systems to Ukraine. In addition to these systems, the allies may supply other types of weapons, including SAMP/T air defense systems. Allies that do not have available air defense systems have agreed to provide financial support for the purchase of such systems for Ukraine.
According to him, NATO countries are increasing the production and modernization of air defense systems. In addition, at today's meeting, the defense ministers addressed many of Ukraine's other urgent needs, in particular the supply of 155mm artillery ammunition, precision strike weapons and drones.
Stoltenberg also recalled that this week Denmark made a new contribution to military aid for Ukraine, the Netherlands announced 4 billion euros in military aid, and the Czech Republic confirmed that it had already ordered half a million artillery shells through the ammunition supply initiative to Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General expressed hope that the US Congress will pass a bill on assistance for Ukraine tomorrow without unnecessary delay.
“Ukraine is using the weapons we provide to destroy Russian military capabilities. This increases the security of all of us. Therefore, supporting Ukraine is not charity. It is an investment in our own security,” Jens Stoltenberg emphasized.
We recall that before an urgent meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of defense ministers, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky addressed its participants, reporting on the urgent needs of air defense in order, in his words, to “bring Putin down to earth” .
