BERLIN, January 30. / TASS /. The first heavy snowfall this winter took place at night in Berlin and Brandenburg, with a total of 5 to 15 cm of precipitation.
About 10 years ago, cold and snowy January-February was the norm for the region; in recent years, winter in the capital has become increasingly mild. Last year, the snow fell several times, but never lay down. In early January, a few centimeters of snow lay at above-zero temperatures, but by noon everything turned into puddles. In general, for almost the entire month, cloudy weather in Berlin gave way to rain, the sun came out extremely rarely.
Snowblowers are now driving through the streets, and owners of open grocery stalls are clearing snow in front of their shops. Many residents went for walks in parks and squares. “For the first time in several years, we pulled a sled out of the basement, after several weeks of bad weather, there is finally a good reason to spend a day off in the fresh air,” a man who came with two children to the slide in Gerlitser Park told a TASS correspondent.
