Hearing loss: doctor warns of new symptoms of Indian strain of coronavirus
Changes in the set of the main manifestations of coronavirus are associated with its mutations, Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, told RIA Novosti.
“First of all, you need to understand that all the symptoms of COVID-19 are nonspecific, including the loss of smell, which occurs in 70-80% of cases. Now there is some change in the spectrum of dominant early clinical manifestations in connection with the emergence of new strains of SARS-CoV2, ”explained the epidemiologist.
According to her, the Indian strain of coronavirus infection often manifests itself with symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract – these are abdominal pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea. Joint pain and even hearing loss are also common.
Indian doctors note that in comparison with the onset of a pandemic, patients more often have diarrhea and microthrombosis of the lower extremities, which can cause the development of gangrene and amputation of fingers, Pshenichnaya said.
Fever and coughs are much less common when infected with the Indian strain of the virus, she said. According to the specialist, a symptom such as loss of smell in this case is not even included in the top ten.
Earlier it became known that 7 704 cases of coronavirus were detected in Moscow over the past day, thus the maximum was beaten on December 24. To stop the spread of the virus, the authorities are introducing new restrictions.
