Sri Lankan Minister of Health Pavitra Vannyaracchi, who took herbal syrup to prevent COVID-19, contracted the coronavirus. Reported by the Associated Press.
A spokesman for the country's health ministry on Saturday, January 23, confirmed that Vannyaracci, who had previously faced criticism for consuming and supporting the herbal syrup for coronavirus made by a sorcerer, had tested positive. Now she will have to go to quarantine.
In December, thousands of people gathered in long lines in the city of Kegalle, northeast of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, to get the syrup. It came just days after Vannyracci and several other government officials publicly used it.
In turn, the doctors said that there is no scientific basis to believe that the syrup is a cure for the coronavirus. Presumably it contains honey and nutmeg.
