Willie Walsh is to succeed Alexande de Juniac.

IATA boss Alexandre de Juniac

The head of the international airline association IATA, Alexandre de Juniac, is stepping down from his post at the end of March 2021. His successor is to be the former head of British Airways parent IAG, Willie Walsh, as the umbrella association of airlines (IATA) announced on Monday evening. “I did not make the decision easy,” said Juniac according to the announcement.

The corona crisis once again made the great importance of IATA as the voice of the international aviation industry clear. “The building blocks for a recovery in the industry are ready. And now is the right time to hand over the IATA leadership for the long period of recovery,” Juniac is quoted as saying.

Juniac had come to IATA from Air France / KLM in September 2016. Willie Walsh left the IAG leadership in March this year and announced that he would be retiring.

The association announced the change immediately before its annual general meeting, which will take place online on Tuesday due to the corona pandemic.
