Ruhollah Zam, head of the news portal Amad News, was executed in Iran on December 12, Tasnim reported.
As specified, the execution was carried out by hanging. The agency noted that he managed not only the portal, but also the Telegram channel. Days before the execution, the country's Supreme Court upheld the June sentence.
In June, it was reported that Ruhollah Zam, head of the news portal Amad News, had been sentenced to death. Iranian Supreme Court spokesman Gholam Hossein Ismaily then stressed that the decision could be appealed.
The deputy was detained in October 2019 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It was alleged that intelligence had been following the journalist for many years. According to them, he collaborated with foreign intelligence services and wanted to “bring the country to confusion.”
In 2017-2018, Zam was actively involved in covering protest actions in Iran, while his place of permanent residence was France. The Iranian authorities have repeatedly called Amad News an anti-government resource.
