The Israeli Prime Minister called on Hamas terrorists to release the hostages and save their own lives.
On the evening of Thursday, October 17, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar opens the way to peace in the Middle East. He added that the war in the Gaza Strip will not end until Israel returns the hostages to their homes.
Reuters reports this.
“Today, evil was dealt a heavy blow, but our task is still not completed. I say to the families of the hostages: this is the most important moment in the war. We will continue our efforts until all your loved ones, our loved ones, return home,” Netanyahu said in a video message.
The Israeli prime minister also addressed the Hamas terrorists, announcing the escape of their leaders and promising that they will all be eliminated.
“All those holding hostages will be allowed to live if they lay down their arms and release their captives,” Netanyahu promised.
Earlier it became known that the leader of Hamas and the organizer of the October 7, 2023 attacks, Yahya Sinwar, the most wanted person during the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, was liquidated.
The information disseminated in the media was confirmed a few hours later by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz.
Israeli media reported, citing military sources, that Sinwar was killed the day before, October 16, during a battle between infantry troops and Hamas militias during a routine patrol in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Who is Yahya Sinwar
61-year-old radical militant Yahya Sinwar was believed to be the mastermind behind the October 7, 2023, attacks in southern Israel, in which about 1,200 people were killed and another 250 kidnapped. Since then, he has become the most wanted man in Israel.
Born in a refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Yunis, Sinwar was elected leader of Hamas in Gaza in 2017, earning a reputation as Israel's biggest enemy.
On August 6, following the assassination of then-chairman of the political bureau Ismail Ghaniya in Tehran on July 31, he was elected to the highest position in the organizational structure of the Palestinian Islamist group.
Recall that the head of the political bureau of the terrorist organization Hamas, Ismail Ghaniya, was killed in Tehran on the night of July 31. He is considered one of those responsible for the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Hamas blamed Israel for Ghaniya's liquidation and made threats against the state, but has not yet officially commented on the event. At the same time, the US has declared its readiness to help Israel defend itself in the event of a new attack.
