Voters in the American capital Washington, DC, have voted to decriminalize the cultivation, storage and non-commercial distribution of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Reported by The Hill.
Voting on this issue took place within the framework of general election day on November 3. The majority of residents of the District of Columbia supported decriminalization – more than 76 percent.
The so-called Initiative 81 stipulates that the prosecution of people involved in the “non-commercial cultivation, cultivation, purchase, transport, distribution and storage” of hallucinogenic mushrooms will become one of the least important areas of police activity. At the same time, the district attorney general is also urged to end the persecution of individuals from this list.
The issue put to a vote in Washington is not the only drug-related issue in the country. So, voters in New Jersey voted to legalize the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. Similar issues were raised in the states of Montana, Arizona, South Dakota and Mississippi. And Oregonians have come out in favor of the criminalization of possession of small quantities of hard drugs, including heroin and cocaine.
General Election Day was held in the United States on November 3. Citizens elected a president and vice president, 35 senators, the entire House of Representatives, 13 governors and local government representatives. There are no final results of the presidential election yet, but incumbent leader Donald Trump has already congratulated his voters on his victory.
