This was revealed in the framework of a survey conducted by the Algorithmika Programming School and the Russia – Country of Opportunities Autonomous Nonprofit Organization among schoolchildren in the Northern capital and other cities.
Moreover, St. Petersburg schoolchildren are much less likely than others to plan to link their careers with IT development – only 50% of the respondents. 28% even noted that their work will definitely not be related to the IT sphere, and every fourth schoolchild has not yet decided on a future profession.
Despite the fact that every fourth St. Petersburg schoolchild is bored in computer science lessons, 71% of the respondents noted that they use the skills acquired in these lessons in life. And 61% of students study programming additionally – outside of educational institutions. Also, more than half of the surveyed schoolchildren and students consider the profession in the field of IT to be a purely male occupation.
According to a poll conducted by HeadHunter, only 10% of Petersburgers consider their profession to be prestigious. Almost half of the respondents answered negatively to the corresponding question.
