Almost half of Russians supported the creation of a completely autonomous Internet segment in the Russian Federation. Of these, 15% are positive about the idea, another 31% are more likely to support the idea than not. 32% of respondents rather do not support the initiative, and 22% are strongly negative. At the same time, the majority of Russians (73%) cannot live without the “global web”, according to a study by Otkritie Bank.
As reported by RIA Novosti, today only 2% of Russians do not use the Internet at all.
It is noted that for 66% of respondents, the possibility of completely disconnecting Russia from the Internet is a violation of the right to free access to information. Such sentiments are most popular in Siberia (72%), in the Urals and the Central Federal District (69% each), the least in the North Caucasus (55%) and in the Northwestern District (59%).
According to 19% of Russians, it is technically impossible to completely turn off the Internet in the country, and people will bypass the blocks. Another 12% think that it is not necessary to completely disconnect Russia from the Internet, but it is useful to have such an opportunity. The isolation of Runet was supported by only 3% of the survey participants.
The poll was conducted from 11 to 18 October among 1,000 Russians aged 18–65 in cities with a population of over 100,000.
Earlier, “Secret” wrote that the costs of ensuring the integrity, functioning stability and security of the Russian segment of the Internet for the next three years will amount to almost 31 billion rubles.
