The hackers gained access to the inside information of the Twitch streaming platform, as well as to the data of its users. The hack, which was originally reported on the forums, was confirmed by the platform itself (owned by Amazon).
Information about the hacking appeared on the 4chan platform, writes CNBC. One of its users on the forum stated that he was involved in infiltrating Twitch systems. According to him, this was done in order to increase competition in the world of online video streaming. However, he called Twich “disgusting toxic trash heap.”
The message said that the hackers gained access to 125 GB of data. Among them, according to the attackers, were the source code on which the service runs, as well as plans by Amazon Game Studio to launch an online computer games store that will compete with industry leader Steam.
In addition, some of the compromised data related to the earnings of Twitch streamers, writes The Wall Street Journal. Some of them received millions of dollars. The newspaper notes that several streamers wrote on social networks that the widespread information about their earnings is true. This was also confirmed by one of the BBC streamers.
Twitch has confirmed the hack. “Our teams are working urgently to determine the extent of this. We will inform users as soon as we receive additional information, ”the platform said on Twitter.
Amazon acquired Twich in 2014 for about $ 970 million. Now more than 7 million people broadcast videos on the platform every month, with an average of 2.5 million viewers at any given time, writes the Wall Street Journal.
