Hackers hacked Acer twice in a row in a week

The hacker group hacked the electronics manufacturer Acer two times in a row in a week. The first time the hackers stole the data of the company's employees, the second – they taught the vendor a lesson for negligent attitude to their own security.

A hacker group called Desorden hacked Acer twice within a week. According to the hackers themselves, they hacked Acer servers in India. After the first attack on one of the hacker forums, Desorden put up for sale 60 GB of information about customers, retailers, distributors of the company, as well as financial statements.

But at the same time, Desorden immediately launched a new attack to check what conclusions were drawn at Acer. According to the hackers, the second attack was successful. They sent a kind of report about this to many journalists, including sending an e-mail to the editorial office of BleepingComputer.

“We didn't ask for money, we just decided to prove how unacceptable Acer is about the security of its own systems,” – said representatives of Desorden.

As noted, Acer took the compromised servers offline, but the hackers said they were aware of any remaining security holes in the company. Moreover, all their attacks were directed against the personal data of the vendor's employees and customers.
