Hackers demand $ 50 million from Apple for silence

by alex

On Tuesday, April 20, the well-known hacker group REvil , which specializes in information theft and subsequent blackmail, decided to bite off the most expensive Yabloko in the world. According to the portal Gizmodo, the cyber gang said that they managed to hack into the servers of the Taiwanese IT company Quanta Computer, which cooperates with such giants as Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Blackberry.

A firm from Southeast Asia is engaged, in particular, in assembling MacBooks, and has access to the latest developments of its customer. This information was hunted by digital ransomware.

Now Revil is demanding $ 50 million from the American corporation, threatening otherwise to leak into the network data about upcoming Apple innovations, which Yabloko traditionally keep in the strictest confidence until the grand presentation.

As proof that they really have classified information, hackers have posted on the Darknet schematic images of the new laptop, clearly demonstrating its “insides” and dated March 2021. If the ransom is not paid to them by May 1, cybercriminals will publish all available materials. The hackers also offered to pay off the Taiwanese, but the deadline was shorter – until April 27.

The fact that Quanta admitted that there really was a hacker attack adds fuel to the fire. True, they refused to say what kind of information and in what volumes was stolen. While representatives of Apple are silent.

Some computer security experts believe that the hackers' statements are a bluff, since the drawings presented do not contain technical details and do not look like Apple's classified documentation.

REvil had previously claimed responsibility for hacking Acer, demanding a $ 50 million ransom in exchange for its stolen files. However, whether other well-known laptop manufacturers have paid is unknown.
