Lagarde received a WhatsApp message from the number used by the former German chancellor.
The hackers tried to trick the President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde into providing an identification code with which they could access her WhatsApp account. Fraudsters posing as Merkel sent a message to Lagarde asking for the code.

The attackers were caught before any data was compromised .
“We can confirm that there was a recent attempt at a cyber incident involving the president,” a spokesman for the bank said.
While such an attack was not new, German authorities said the scheme was unique because it used the covers of high-ranking politicians.
The deception was revealed when Lagarde called Merkel on the phone to find out if the message was real.
Recall, recently, hackers attacked e-mail members of the German Union 90/The Greens, the accounts of Burbock and Habek were affected.
