The coronavirus pandemic in the world has been going on for more than a year. During this time, the virus has mutated more than once. Now the dominant strain is “delta”. In our country, more than 95% of cases of COVID-19 are the Indian strain, said Rinat Maksyutov, Director General of the State Research Center Vector. This variant of the coronavirus is believed to be more contagious and has a shorter incubation period than the regular SARS-CoV-2.
Now world scientists are concerned with the question of how to defend themselves most effectively against the delta strain. For example, some time ago the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) offered Pfizer to start joint trials with the Sputnik Light vaccine. It is proposed to use the Russian drug as a third dose for people who received two components of the Pfizer vaccine.
Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Center for them. N.F. Gamalei.
“RDIF's step in proposing to boost Pfizer's vaccine with Sputnik Light is quite logical, so that those who have been vaccinated by Pfizer would be effectively protected by a wider range of antibodies that they will form as a result of the boost.”
Gunzburg added that it is currently not clear how effectively the Pfizer vaccine protects against the delta strain: “They need to be boosted. And it is better to be boosted with a vector version of the vaccine. “
By the way, not long before that Alexander Gintsburg explained why Sputnik V is more effective than other vector vaccines.
