TV presenter Dmitry Guberniev named the best athlete in Russia in 2021. His words are quoted by “Narodnye Novosti”.
The journalist said that he was choosing the swimmer Yevgeny Rylov, as he won in a sport with absolute hegemony of the USA, Australia, China and other countries. He also stressed that the victory of athlete Maria Lasitskene at the Olympic Games in Tokyo was historic, therefore she is the country's best female athlete.
At the Tokyo Olympics, Rylov won gold medals at distances of 100 and 200 meters on the back. He also won a silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay in Japan.
Lasickene won the gold medal in the high jump at the Tokyo Olympics. Also, the athlete became the winner of the Diamond League.
