The leadership of Guatemala recalled its ambassador from Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine, this decision was announced by the head of the Central American state, Alejandro Giammattei, writes TASS with reference to La Prensa Libre.
The President clarified that he had given such instructions four days ago. “We will not stand by indifferently to any attack on the sovereignty of any country,” he said. According to the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there has been no talk of severing diplomatic relations so far.
On Thursday, February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military special operation to protect Donbass. Prior to this, the representative of the People's Militia of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, spoke about the worsening situation in the Donbass, called what was happening a genocide and turned to Moscow for help. Meanwhile, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, announced a sharp aggravation of the situation and turned to the Russian president with a request to recognize the independence of the republic.
