Greenpeace allowed “nervous” weather in the coming winter

Due to climate change, the upcoming weather this coming winter may alternate severe cold and precipitation with snowlessness, said Vasily Yablokov, head of Climate and Energy at Russia's Greenpeace, in an interview with Sputnik radio.

“Most likely, we will see new records both in the direction of cold and precipitation, and in the direction of snowlessness. This amplitude and the so-called nervousness of the climate are increasing, ”Yablokov said.

According to the expert, such changes are associated with climate change. Because of this, the weather is becoming less predictable and more difficult to predict, Yablokov added. He noted that weather forecasts in practice are “not very reliable” and vary significantly.

“The meteorologists are not to blame here. The usual circulation in the air masses is changing, and any unexpected processes associated, for example, with warming in the Arctic, can affect the weather in an extremely unpredictable manner, ”Yablokov said.

Earlier, Nikolai Tereshonok, head of the meteorology and climate department of the Central UGMS Federal State Budgetary Institution, said that frosty winter is expected in Russia due to the influence of the Arctic anticyclone. According to him, the same weather awaits Europe. He added that the current cold weather is also due to the anticyclone.
