In Greece, until January 11, restrictive measures were extended and toughened due to the difficult epidemiological situation. This was announced by the official representative of the government of the country Stelios Petsas.

Thus, from 6:00 on January 3 to 6:00 on January 11, all activities and services that were gradually allowed before Christmas were suspended. The work of bookstores, hairdressers and beauty salons, car inspection stations is closed, hunting and fishing are prohibited, churches will be closed.

“We're staying at home again,” Petsas said, adding that a travel ban is being introduced from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am for everyone except those who continue to work or need medical attention.

The government representative stressed that all this is necessary to normalize the epidemiological situation in the country and gradually return to normal life. First of all, it is expected that from January 11, children will be able to return to school.

Petsas concluded that the situation with the coronavirus in Greece is better than in many European countries, but clarified that the number of cases of infection is still high. For example, on Christmas Day about 2.5 thousand Greeks were in hospitals, and more than 400 in intensive care units.

Greece resumed lockdown in early November. You can only leave the house wearing a mask and for valid reasons: commuting to work, visiting a hospital or a store, playing sports. Before leaving the house, the Greeks were obliged to notify the authorities by SMS.

At the end of December, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were vaccinated against COVID-19.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 139 thousand cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Greece, 4.8 thousand people have died from the disease.
