Greece will be quarantined again from November 7, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an address to the nation. According to him, the lockdown, similar to the one introduced in the country in the spring of this year, will be valid until November 30, according to Kathimerini.gr.
You can leave the house during quarantine if there is a good reason. These, according to the Prime Minister, include, in particular:
- going to work;
- going to the store;
- visit doctor;
- playing sports.
In this case, the intention to leave the house will need to notify the authorities by sending an SMS message to a special number. Travel from one region in Greece to another will be prohibited.
During the quarantine, it will be necessary to wear a mask whenever you leave the house, reports the Greek ANA agency.
The introduction of quarantine was announced after the number of detected COVID-19 infections in Greece per day reached the highest level since the beginning of the pandemic of 2,646 cases.
“Why now? The answer is very clear. Over the past five days, we have seen an exponential increase in the incidence. Almost 10 thousand cases in five days. We must stop this wave, ”Mitsotakis said.
At the same time, the Prime Minister said that, unlike the spring lockdown, kindergartens and elementary schools will not be closed during the new quarantine. But senior pupils and students will switch to distance learning.
Those who, due to the lockdown, will lose the opportunity to work and receive a salary, Mitsotakis promised financial assistance from the state in the amount of € 800. In addition, the unemployed will be extended the period for receiving benefits, and they will also receive an additional payment.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 46.8 thousand cases of infection have been recorded in Greece, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
Earlier, a number of other European countries announced the introduction of quarantine measures. So, in Germany, restaurants, bars, cinemas, entertainment establishments have stopped working since November 2, and the work of shops has been limited. According to the country's Chancellor Angela Merkel, the restrictions will last at least until the end of autumn. Since November 3, in Austria, due to the spread of the coronavirus, residents across the country have been restricted from leaving their homes.
On November 5, the head of the Ministry of Health of Cyprus, Konstantinos Ioannou, announced that restrictions were being introduced in this country. In particular, a curfew will be in effect from 23:00 to 5:00, restaurants, bars and cafes are prohibited from operating after 22:30, and so on.
