Markit index in December rose 1.9 to 57.5 points
The mood in British industrial companies improved noticeably in December. The purchasing managers index of the research company IHS Markit rose by 1.9 points to 57.5 points compared to the previous month, as Markit announced on Monday in London after a second estimate.
A first survey was thus slightly revised upwards. In a first estimate, an index value of 57.3 points was reported for December. Analysts had expected confirmation on average.
Thus the index value for December rose again well above the expansion threshold of 50 points. It thus indicates robust growth in the sector. Markit experts pointed out that industrial companies would have benefited from an increase in inventories at the end of 2020, shortly before the end of a transition period after Brexit. It was only at the turn of the year that the EU and Great Britain agreed on a Brexit trade agreement after a long struggle.
