Russian oil is still flowing into the United Kingdom.
The UK has been accused of “helping the Russian Federation finance the war in Ukraine” from -for the continued import of record volumes of refined oil from countries that process the Kremlin's fossil fuels.
The Guardian writes about this.
Government data analyzed by environmental news site Desmog suggests refined oil imports from India, China and Turkey will total £2.2 billion in 2023, similar to the previous year's record figure, according to compared to £434.2 million in 2021.
Global Witness called the process a “washing” that undermines Russian resistance.
The publication recalls that Ukraine’s partners, in response to the Russian full-scale invasion, pledged to refuse gas and oil supplies from the Russian Federation.
In particular, the UK has introduced an official ban on the import of Russian petroleum products from December 5, 2022. However, a legal loophole allowed Russian oil to continue flowing into the UK.
Russia ranks second in the world in terms of oil exports. However, due to the influence of Western sanctions, Moscow has to adapt to new realities. The consequence of restrictions against the Russian Federation was the redirection of the lion's share of oil and petroleum products exports to Asian and African regions.
Recall that on March 22, the British edition of the Financial Times reported that US authorities allegedly called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries due to fears of a significant increase in world oil prices.
In particular, as a result of an attack by Ukrainian drones on the night of March 13 at the oil refinery in Ryazan, which is the largest enterprise of Rosneft, two primary oil refining units were damaged.
