UK accuses Russia of trying interfere in the country's politics. They say that the Russian Federation is trying to carry out hacker attacks aimed at democratic processes.

The Guardian writes about this.

As noted, due to hacker attacks by the Russian Federation, Britain summoned the Russian ambassador.

“We expose their evil attempts at influence and shed light on yet another example of how Russia chooses to operate on the world stage. We will continue to work with our allies to expose Russia's covert cyber activities and hold Russia to account for its actions,” said British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

He also added that there are hundreds of victims of Russian hacking attempts across the UK, many of whom have well-known names – < strong>with personal email address target accounts, not just official email addresses.

PA Media reports that Foreign Secretary Leo Docherty said impersonation attempts and “fake accounts” were made to compromise email accounts in the public sector and wider civil society to create “a credible approach aimed at establishing” before sending a malicious link”.

MPs in London have been told that sanctions will be imposed on two members of the hacking group Star Blizzard following an investigation by the National Crime Agency. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs named them: this is Andrei Stanislavovich Korintsev, also known as Alexey Doguzhiev, and FSB intelligence officer Ruslan Aleksandrovich Peretyatko.

Docherty said the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office to be told that “these actions have consequences.” It is known that the ambassador was unavailable when he was summoned, and officials instead met with a senior member of the Russian government to express concerns about attempts to interfere in democratic processes.

The Russian Embassy in London has not yet commented on these accusations, although yesterday it issued a strong statement condemning a new round of sanctions against Russians related to war in Ukraine, calling them illegitimate unilateral restrictions and describing the announcement as another act of poorly staged drama on the part of the UK.

Recall that from 2024 the Kremlin against Ukraine will increase the number of cyber attacks with artificial intelligence.
