Energy Vault received funds to build the first gravitational energy storage. The first unit will begin to be built in the United States by the end of the year. In the future, they will appear in Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.
The rig itself is an automatic six-boom tower crane. Any garbage can be made into 35-ton blocks, which will then be raised to a height. Thanks to this process, energy will be stored.
In addition, solar or wind energy is collected, which goes to the electric motors of the crane, which raise the blocks to a height. That is, the installation can work completely autonomously. After being raised to a height, the blocks are lowered to the ground under the influence of gravity. This starts the process of generating electricity in electric generators.
It is reported that the efficiency of the installation reaches 85%.
