New York Governor Andrew Cuomo refused to hire a woman because he considered her “not pretty enough.” He was caught in this by his former assistant Karen Hinton, reports the Daily Mail.
According to Hinton, while working for Cuomo, she once recommended that he take on one of the positions in his team a woman who worked in the Capitol for several years, but he refused to do so because of the appearance of a potential employee. Hinton recalled that after interviewing her proposed candidate, Cuomo said he had no plans to hire her.
“I asked:“ Why? ”. He replied: “She's not pretty enough. I don't like the way she looks,” said the ex-assistant to the politician.
She added that Cuomo, who worked at that time in the administration of the then US President Bill Clinton, considered the situation around the scandal related to the affair between the head of state and Monica Lewinsky, an intern at the White House, to be amusing. “I remember how he laughed about the situation with Monica Lewinsky, not because he did not believe her – he believed – but because he found it funny,” – said Hinton.
She also previously accused Cuomo of sexual inappropriate behavior. According to Hinton, a politician once decided to hug her in a hotel room in Los Angeles. At the same time, the hugs were “too strong and long,” and Cuomo came after them sexually aroused, the woman said.
In total, seven women have spoken about Cuomo's harassment since 2020. His resignation was demanded by the mayor of New York, as well as a number of senators and congressmen of the United States and the state of New York – both Republicans and Democrats. It was also reported that after the outbreak of the scandal, the politician began to lose supporters. In particular, his closest assistant Melissa DeRosa resigned.
