Google will halve its store commission when users pay for app subscriptions in the Google Play store. It will be 15% instead of 30% from the first day of service. Google decided in this way to meet the needs of developers who complained that it was difficult for them to retain customers. The new rules will take effect from 2022.
Now the commission on Google Play when users pay for subscriptions for applications is 30% in the first year of service, and from the second it is reduced to 15%. However, many developers have complained about the shortcomings of this model, as it is already difficult for them to retain subscribers. From January 1, 2022, the commission for all subscriptions in the Google store will be 15% from the first day of use, said vice president of the company Samir Samat.
Members of the Media Experience program will pay an even lower commission. These are streaming music services and digital libraries. Most of their sales are paid content. The service charge for them will be 10%.
Since July 1, 2021, Google has reduced from 30% to 15% the commission for application developers, whose annual revenue does not exceed $ 1 million. The innovation affected 99% of software creators.
Apple, Google's main competitor, has also previously begun to cut fees on its App Store. She cut it down from 30% to 15% for some programs, such as news apps. However, in the first year of service, everyone still pays 30%.
Earlier it became known that Google has postponed the presentation of smart watches. Users expected the company to unveil the new product at the same time as the Pixel 6 smartphone in October, but insiders say that the announcement of the new product should not be expected until the first quarter of 2022.
