Google will disable messages on Huawei smartphones

Google will disable the sending and receiving of messages on some Android devices. This is reported by XDA Developers.

The journalists examined the code of the APK application of the next version of Google Messages, a messenger popular on smartphones running Android. In beta version 7.2.203, experts found a mention of the function of disabling messages on devices.

Judging by the description, this option will disable the main functionality of non-certified smartphones – those devices that, for one reason or another, have not received certification for Google mobile services. The authors suggested that Google Messages will stop working on Huawei smartphones, since the company is on the US sanctions list and has no right to install Google services on its devices.

According to experts, this measure is related to the deployment of the RCS end-to-end encryption protocol in the application. Thus, Google intends to disconnect uncertified smartphones from the service, since it cannot guarantee that these devices will not be hacked. The new version of Google Messages will be released on March 31st.

Earlier it became known that Honor will be released from US sanctions and will be able to install Google services on its devices. This is due to the fact that the previous owner of the brand – limited to the US by Huawei – got rid of its asset. Honor's first phone with Google Play is due for release this spring.
