The imposition of a copyright restriction on the distribution of the Russian national anthem on YouTube was wrong. This was reported in the press service of Google, reports TASS.

“We examined the claim of BMI (Broadcast Music Inc, an American organization for the protection of copyrights. – RBC ) and determined that it was unfounded and should be withdrawn,” Google said.

The company added that the Content ID fingerprint associated with this claim was configured in violation of Google policies.

The Content ID system allows copyright holders to identify and manage their content on YouTube. It stores digital prints – content samples uploaded by copyright holders. All new YouTube videos are compared against these prints. If a match is found, the Content ID system claims the rights to the videos on behalf of the copyright holder.

On the eve of the fact that YouTube considered the performance of the Russian anthem controversial, blogger Yuri Khovansky reported, Octagon Media reported. Later, the Telegram channel “Nezygar” also wrote about this.

Roskomnadzor demanded from Google to lift restrictions on the publication of materials with the Russian anthem, calling the blocking of such videos “blatant and unacceptable rudeness” in relation to all citizens of Russia. The department indicated that the national anthem is not considered an object of copyright.
