On February 28, the Executive Council (EC) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a special decision to withdraw the Olympic Orders from Russian President Vladimir Putin and his associates.

– The IOC Executive Board, based on the exceptional circumstances of the situation and taking into account the extremely serious violations of the Olympic Truce and other violations of the Olympic Charter by the Russian government in the past, has taken a special decision to withdraw the Olympic Order from all persons currently holding an important position in the government of the Russian Federation or other high-ranking position connected with state power,” the statement said.

In particular, the Golden Olympic Order for 2001 will be taken away from Putin, the Gold for 2014 will be taken away from the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Gold for 2014 will be confiscated from the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Dmitry Kozak.

– The IOC Executive Board confirms its full solidarity with the Ukrainian Olympic community. They are in our hearts and thoughts. The IOC Executive Board is committed to continue and strengthen its humanitarian assistance efforts, the statement added.

They specified that the IOC Executive Committee established a solidarity fund with Ukraine to support the country against the backdrop of a new round of Russian aggression.

– The IOC Executive Board, with the assistance of the IOC Task Force, continues to monitor the situation closely. It may adapt its recommendations and measures in line with future developments, the IOC warned.
