Aaron Ramsdale
Weird action in the Premier League! Arsenal present a new goalkeeper who appears with his grandfather's ashes.
The football world is used to sensational events when presenting new players, but something like the introduction of Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal has never happened before. The 23-year-old goalkeeper moved from relegated Sheffield United to North London a few days ago for 28 million euros.
Ramsdale then took his grandfather's ashes with him to sign the contract with the Gunners, even though he never met his grandfather. “The same day my mother found out she was pregnant with me, my grandfather passed away. His name was Ron, so I was called Aaron in his memory,” he explains.
The future competitor of Bernd Leno in the goal of the Londoners told as part of his performance that his father takes the ashes to all games and takes a photo with the urn in the stadium. “This keeps my grandpa close to his heart.” Ron Ramsdale also wanted to pursue a career as a professional footballer in his youth, but his father had forbidden him. “He was also a goalie, so there is one or the other connection between us,” explains the Englishman, who was the third goalkeeper in the Three Lions squad at the European Championships.
