The Ligue 1 club Girondins Bordeaux has to go bankrupt. Because the owner, the investment company King Street, no longer wants to financially support the six-time French football champion, the club has been placed under the supervision of the Bordeaux Commercial Court, the league announced on Thursday. Bordeaux, who last won the title in 2008/09, are currently 16th in Ligue 1, five points ahead of relegation places.
