Did Alex Zverev hit his girlfriend? The ATP is investigating the allegations against the German tennis ace.
The 24-year-old's former girlfriend claims she was the victim of a beating at the Masters tournament in Shanghai in 2019. Zverev himself denies ever being violent. Before the US Open, he declared that he no longer wanted to comment publicly and that he had called on his lawyers.
Now the ATP initiates investigations. “The allegations made against Alexander Zverev are to be taken seriously and we have an obligation to investigate them,” said ATP boss Massimo Calvelli. “We hope that our investigations will enable us to clear up the facts in order to draw the right conclusions for our further course of action.”
The ATP makes it clear that it rejects all forms of violence and abuse. Allegations in relation to a tournament organized by you want to investigate, it says in a statement by the World Tennis Federation. Zverev is playing at the Masters 1,000 tournament in Indian Wells this week, he has a bye in the first round.
