AP: 'Ghostbusters' director Reitman dies at 75

Canadian director and producer Ivan Reitman has died in the US at the age of 75. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing the director's family.
Known for films such as Ghostbusters and The Twins, Reitman died in his sleep Saturday night at his home in Montecito, California. The cause of his death has not been specified.
“Our family mourns the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always look for the magic in life. We take solace that his work as a director has brought laughter and happiness to countless people around the world,” the director's children Jason, Katherine and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement.
The director was born in 1946 in Czechoslovakia. His father owned the largest vinegar factory in the country. The family later fled the country and settled in Toronto. Reitman studied music and drama at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and began directing short films.
The director gained wide popularity with the release of the film “Ghostbusters” (Ghostbusters, 1984). He also directed the films Twins (Twins, 1988), Kindergarten Cop (Kindergarten Cop, 1990), Junior (Junior, 1995) and Six Days, Seven Nights (Six Days Seven Nights, 1998).
Visual effects creator Douglas Trumbull has died at the age of 80. He has produced visualizations for films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Blade Runner, Star Trek, and The Tree of Life. He has been nominated for an Oscar three times for his work.
