The EU countries should develop a common approach in the fight against offenses related to the publication of illegal content in the Telegram messenger. This call was made by the head of the Ministry of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany Marko Buschmann, RIA Novosti reports.
“The joint action will make a greater impression on Telegram operators than if each country tries to act alone,” the official said. In his opinion, EU countries can communicate through a Telegram representative in the region, which the company will appoint in order not to lose the solvent European market.
In this, Buschmann sees the possibility of a compromise between the Telegram director Pavel Durov and the governments of European countries. On the one hand, the messenger will not lose earnings from advertising in the European market, and on the other hand, the EU countries will be able to receive information about violations through a company representative.
Earlier, German Interior Minister Nancy Feather called for tougher regulation of the Telegram messenger in order to fight hate speech on the Internet. She recalled that the Federal Office of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany opened two cases against Telegram for violating the law on improving law enforcement in social networks.
