Germany to change constitution for defense budget

Germany will change the constitution to create a special defense fund of 100 billion euros.

The project arose after the invasion of Russia to Ukraine.

The centre-right opposition and Germany's ruling coalition with the Social Democrats, Greens and Free Democrats said they had achieved the necessary two-thirds majority to liberate defense fund from the constitutional debt brake.

100 billion euros will be used over several years to increase Germany's regular defense budget by around 50 billion euros and enable the country to meet NATO's target of spending 2% of its GDP annually on defense.

Earlier it became known that Germany will allocate one billion euros to Ukraine about grant assistance.
