Germany did not see any violations in the sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), which, among other things, were introduced against the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Viktor Medvedchuk. The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany is published by TASS.

“The sanctions against Viktor Medvedchuk and seven other people, as well as 19 companies are based on the elements of the terrorist financing crime in accordance with Ukrainian criminal law. Today, as far as we know, the actions of the Ukrainian leadership are based on a legal basis, which, in principle, does not violate the laws and decisions of the OSCE or the Council of Europe, ”said representatives of the foreign ministry.

The German Foreign Ministry recalled that in 2014, the United States also imposed sanctions against Medvedchuk “for undermining the security, territorial integrity and democracy of Ukraine.” The US Embassy in Ukraine also previously supported the NSDC sanctions.

The sanctions against Medvedchuk were adopted on February 19. His family's bank assets were frozen, and part of the property was seized. The secretary of the department, Oleksiy Danilov, said that this was done as part of an investigation by the Security Service of Ukraine on the financing of terrorism in Donbass.

The politician himself called the imposed restrictions “a triumph of lawlessness.” He rebuked Zelensky for crossing “moral boundaries” and promised to continue the political struggle against the president and his party.

In addition, 19 companies and seven more individuals fell under the restrictions. All of them will be blocked from banking assets, restrict trading operations, suspend the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations, and also revoke licenses for the use of subsoil. In addition, they will not be able to take part in privatization, withdraw capital abroad and invest abroad.
