Germany refuses to accept refugees due to coronavirus

The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is suspending the refugee reception programs due to the aggravation of the situation with the coronavirus. This is reported by the Oldenburger Onlinezeitung with reference to the country's interior ministry.

It is noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs officially refused to accept migrants and place them on the territory of the country on March 17. In particular, this mechanism operated between Germany, Turkey and Lebanon, it was fixed at the state level – this is how refugees from Syria got to Europe.

Thanks to this program, Berlin hosted about 5,000 migrants every year. The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not indicate how long the restriction will be in effect.

According to the latest data, more than 9.8 thousand people are infected in Germany, and more than 201 thousand worldwide. 8 thousand died, another 82 thousand were cured.

In February 2017, the German Ministry of the Interior announced the launch of a new migration program “Initial Assistance Plus”, which includes payments to refugees who decide to voluntarily return to their homeland.
