German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that she and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had reached a consensus on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. She stated this in an interview with Die Zeit.

According to Berbock, she and Scholz now have a common position on the launch of the project. “Although it’s not a secret that in the past we held different positions on this issue, both the Chancellor and I have now clearly stated that the certification process should proceed on the basis of European legislation,” she said.

In addition, she added that issues related to the energy security of Germany will be important when considering the issue of the Russian gas pipeline.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, called for an end to the politicization of the certification process for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to him, many countries speak about the politicization of the project, but not Germany. Peskov stressed that Berlin calls the pipeline an exclusively commercial project. He also noted that what is happening at the moment is a certification process by the German regulator. “In no way does it need to be politicized, you don’t need to see any tricks, you need to be patient here,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
