The German authorities have prepared to host Belarusians who have suffered from the actions of the state after the protests against President Alexander Lukashenko. This is reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
We are talking about those who survived torture, and about opposition activists who are persecuted by the Belarusian regime. It is noted that the persecution in such cases also concerns the relatives of the activists. They will be able to apply for a visa to Germany under a simplified scheme, specially designed for those who need asylum.
Michael Roth, Minister of State for European Affairs at the German Foreign Ministry, spoke about this decision at the request of representatives of the Green Party. The party said that they support such a step by the government as “an important, albeit belated sign of solidarity with the Belarusian democratic movement.”
It is noted that such measures were taken by the Lithuanian government in December last year. Over the fall and the first month of winter, the country received more than 1.3 thousand Belarusians.
