German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock opposed the supply of weapons to Ukraine, as this could lead to further military escalation in the east of the country. Her statement is quoted by Radio Sputnik.
Berbock said that the main task of the international community is to prevent further escalation. Answering a clarifying question about whether this means a refusal to supply weapons to Ukraine, the minister stressed: “further military escalation will not bring additional security to Ukraine.”
She also recalled that the G7 countries and the European Union made it clear that further aggravation of the situation on the border with Ukraine and violation of Ukraine's sovereignty would have huge political and economic consequences for Russia.
At the same time, earlier sources in the German government said that the German authorities had doubted the position of the United States about the fact that Russia was allegedly preparing a possible attack on Ukraine.
