In Germany, a 101-year-old woman from a nursing home in Halberstadt, Saxony-Anhalt received the first coronavirus vaccination as part of the mass vaccination of the population. Reported by Bild.
In total, 40 out of 59 residents were vaccinated at the nursing home, as well as ten employees and the center's managing director. They were inoculated with the drug against COVID-19 BioNTech / Pfizer.
Germany has planned to start vaccination of the population against coronavirus on December 27. Saxony-Anhalt received the first delivery – 9.7 thousand doses of the vaccine – on Saturday morning, December 26, and distributed the vaccine to districts and urban districts. First of all, people over 80 years old, employees of nursing homes, as well as doctors – employees of outpatient services, intensive care units and emergency care units will receive the vaccine.
Earlier, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the country has overcome the worst stage of the spread of coronavirus. Steinmeier urged those who doubt the safety of the vaccine to still trust Berlin's decision. According to the politician, local democracy has repeatedly proved that it can be trusted.
There are currently several COVID-19 vaccines in the world. So, in Russia two vaccines are registered: “Sputnik V” and “EpiVacCorona”. On December 5, Moscow started vaccination against coronavirus with Sputnik V. The United States and the United Kingdom also began inoculating the population with Pfizer / BioNTech. On December 21, the European Union approved the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.
