The official representative of the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, denied the information that appeared in the media about the ban on Deutsche Welle reporters to fly to Moscow with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He wrote about it on Twitter.
For the first time such a rumor appeared on the pages of the Tagesspiegel newspaper. According to the publication, the government’s Press and Information Department refused DW to accompany the politician during his trip to Russia on February 15.
“In order to avoid misunderstandings: Deutsche Welle was invited to the Chancellor’s trip to Moscow,” Hebestrait assured.
On February 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry published a list of measures in response to the ban on the broadcasting of the German-language RT DE TV channel in Germany. Among them are the termination of satellite and other broadcasting of Deutsche Welle in Russia and the closure of the organization’s office in Moscow. The agency also decided to revoke the accreditation of all employees of the Deutsche Welle Moscow bureau and initiate a procedure for considering the recognition of the company as a foreign agent.
The ban on the broadcasting of the RT DE channel became known on February 1. The corresponding decision was made by the German Commission for the Supervision of the Media. The reason was the channel’s lack of a license required by the law on mass media. Representatives of RT DE in response announced their intention to seek a judicial review of this decision.
