Germany has completed the evacuation of people from the Kabul International Airport, where earlier militants of the radical group “Islamic State” ( IS, banned in Russia ) staged terrorist attacks. This was reported by the German Defense Ministry.
According to the ministry, the last plane of the Bundeswehr left the airspace of Afghanistan. The ship departed at 18:20 local time (16:50 Moscow time). It is specified that the remaining German military will be withdrawn by August 27.
Earlier on Twitter, the Bundeswehr reported that since the beginning of the evacuation mission, a total of 5193 people have been taken to a safe place. Only on August 25, the corresponding figure was 539 people.
“We will continue to evacuate until the last second,” further emphasized in a Twitter post. The day before, it was reported that the United States and its allies were able to evacuate 19 thousand people from Afghanistan within 24 hours.
On August 26, it became known that two terrorist attacks had taken place on the territory adjacent to the Kabul airport. The first explosion at the Baron Hotel was allegedly caused by a suicide bomber. The second explosion occurred at the drainage channel leading to the airport. There was also information about the shooting in the center of Kabul. The death toll reached 40 people, over 60 were injured.
