According to the Bundeswehr general, Trump, when talking about 5% of GDP, "meant something else".

The demand of the President of the United States Donald Trump that Germany should spend 5% of the country's GDP on defense – cannot be achieved.

This was stated on the air of the ntv channel by the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, General Carsten Breuer.

“President Trump, of course, has started the discussion again. And I think that's what he wanted. He wanted to provoke it,” Breuer said.

The general stated that Germany cannot afford to spend 5% on defense, so at the Bayer Duque, when Trump spoke about 5% of GDP, “he meant something else.”

“By this, he meant that we in Europe should be much more involved than “We have been doing this until now,” the military man said.

In addition, he said that in order to meet this requirement, industry must be able to provide it, but this is unrealistic.

“I think we need to gradually resolve the whole issue. We are doing it right now,” Breuer assured.

Earlier it was reported that European countries are preparing for a potential war with Russia, strengthening their defense capabilities in case of escalation.

We previously reported that US President Donald Trump does not intend to leave Europe, including Ukraine, overnight without US military support.
