The German deputy of the Landtag of the federal state of Hamburg Olga Petersen announced her positive assessment of the position of the new chancellor Olaf Scholz on Nord Stream 2. The German leader does not agree to use the project as a political leverage against Russia. This is reported by Izvestia.

“I am glad that Scholz is in favor of the certification of Nord Stream 2. Unlike [German Foreign Minister Annalena] Berbock, he understands that without Russian gas, not only Germany, but most of Europe will freeze. This is a commercial project that stabilizes power supply primarily in our country, ”the politician said.

According to Petersen, Europe has an urgent need to bring the new Russian pipeline into operation as soon as possible.

Earlier on Wednesday, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced the inadmissibility of sanctions against Russian gas. He believes that now such restrictions are impossible, and Europe is not able to afford to take such a step.

On December 17, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the suspension of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline a non-political and not a final decision. At the same time, the head of state added that this procedure provides for “a lot of consultations”, but the process is underway.
