Heiko Maas
Based on the actions of the Russian state, it can be concluded that Russia is unwilling to help the European authorities with the case of the poisoning of Alexei Navalny. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated this in his speech, Reuters reports.
Maas stressed that the Russian authorities had ample opportunity to help clarify the details of this case – but this has not yet happened, and the German authorities have serious doubts that the Russians are interested in the investigation.
The Russian side has similar counter-claims: Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference that EU representatives do not provide an official conclusion on the poisoning of Navalny with a specific substance and do not send samples for analysis to Russia.
Navalny became ill on August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow. In the first two days he was treated in an Omsk hospital, and after that he was transported to a clinic in Berlin. German experts announced the poisoning of the oppositionist with a substance from the Novichok group. During the examination, Russian doctors did not find traces of poisons in the patient's body.
